The latest Belgian WEEE figures confirm that Belgium continues to meet the European targets for the collection, processing, and recycling of waste electrical and electronic equipment.

These results are driven by a combination of clear regulations, accurate reporting, and collaboration throughout the entire e-waste chain.

Strong collection and treatment results

For the 2023 reference year, Belgium collected over 169,000 tonnes of e-waste. More than 161,000 tonnes were processed within Belgium itself, with an additional 5,600+ tonnes processed in other EU member states.

The overall results demonstrate strong performance:

• 2% recovery rate
• 8% preparation for reuse and recycling
• over 130,000 tonnes of material recycled

Belgium therefore once again meets the established European WEEE targets.

Transparent reporting as a foundation

Since 2023, reporting parties are required to either:

• submit their own verified processing figures
• or confirm compliance with minimum standards

This improves transparency, traceability and data reliability across the entire chain.

• companies reporting directly through BeWeee
